Jun 25 2009

Read up on the Big Game Alaska Wildlife Center and when you are making your Alaska tourism plans you will certainly want to include a visit. This is a place that has been opened up to the public since 1993 for you to see the big game up close. It was established to take in orphaned and injured animals from the state. On this 140 acre range the animals are brought back to good health by caring, devoted workers.

Enjoy seeing the Bald Eagle who was saved from a severe gunshot wound. Check out the Great Horned owl up close and personal. The bison that are there can hear and smell you long before they can see you.

A relative of the goat is the Musk Ox which roams the grounds. These animals have a fabulous coat of winter fur that when spring comes can be combed out and made into some of the warmest clothing anyplace. You can see some of the items in the gift shop and take home a memory. The gift shop is located in the log lodge which was built by the owner, by hand, from logs of trees killed by spruce bark beetles.
