Alaska Tourism Showcases the Big Game Alaska Wildlife Center

Jun 25 2009 No Comments »

Read up on the Big Game Alaska Wildlife Center and when you are making your Alaska tourism plans you will certainly want to include a visit. This is a place that has been opened up to the public since 1993 for you to see the big game up close. It was established to take in orphaned and injured animals from the state. On this 140 acre range the animals are brought back to good health by caring, devoted workers.

Enjoy seeing the Bald Eagle who was saved from a severe gunshot wound. Check out the Great Horned owl up close and personal. The bison that are there can hear and smell you long before they can see you.

A relative of the goat is the Musk Ox which roams the grounds. These animals have a fabulous coat of winter fur that when spring comes can be combed out and made into some of the warmest clothing anyplace. You can see some of the items in the gift shop and take home a memory. The gift shop is located in the log lodge which was built by the owner, by hand, from logs of trees killed by spruce bark beetles.

Larsen’s Camp Samburu As Part Of A Luxury African Hunting Safari

Larsen’s Camp Samburu in Kenya is an opportunity to experience a luxury African Safari Camp with a turn of the century atmosphere.

It opened twenty years ago and lies on the banks of the river Uaso Nyiro over three hundred kilometres north of Nairobi on the border of the old Northern Frontier Province. Go to hunting safari for more information.

Larsen’s is best described as very stylish and upmarket, very comfortable and old colonial. The situation overlooking the river is classical luxury African safari camp.

What you will find here at Larsen’s is a casual elegance along with great style, all very laid back, and incredibly comfortable. If you associate a degree of discomfort on an African Safari then Larsen’s will show you what can be achieved to turn your African Safari into a luxury African Safari.

In terms of your accommodation, there are twenty spacious tents all raised up on wooden platforms, facing the river, so you can watch the animals from your own private verandah. Each is well equipped with good bathrooms and lovely showers.

When it comes to Dining, then Larsen’s Camp more than justifies its’ huge reputation. Whether it be dining by candlelight with fine china and silver cutlery, receiving immaculate table service, or your breakfast and barbecues cooked before you and for you, the food is quite superb. The dining tent at Larsen’s opens on three sides, and of course also overlooks the river.
All is relatively tranquil, helped in part by the policy of there being no children under the age of seven.

Of course it doesn’t matter how beautiful your Luxury African safari camp is, what you want to see is plenty of wildlife, and Larsen’s will not disappoint.

You will have two game drives in your day, the first early morning 6-9am and the other 4-6.30pm approximately. You’ll be woken with tea or coffee and biscuits, and breakfast is served after the morning drive.
The day is very much your own, and the new swimming pool and spa with great views helps you to relax, and there is also a game viewing platform as well. Refer to hunting safaris for more information.

The great thing about the game drives are the fact hat you can be in your own vehicle and not jammed in a mini bus.

All this without mentioning the river which is like a magnet for wildlife, and with luck you will see elephants rolling around in the shallow water, as well as a huge number of animals regularly coming to drink.

Larsen’s Camp is special, Samburu is special, and is a ‘must visit’ stopover probably for three nights on any luxury Afican safari. Visit hunting safaris for further information.

Elk Hunting On Private Ranches

Sep 05 2008 No Comments »

A great way to hunt elk is on a guaranteed elk hunt on one of the many private ranches in the States and Canada now offering this service. Most include accommodation, meals and guides included in the price. The larger outfits offer cabins with all the luxuries of home and you can go as upmarket as your budget will allow: I’ve even seen these cabins advertised with hot tubs on the porch! The smaller outfits may offer camping which all adds to the fun of getting out into the great outdoors.

You will find the hunting itself on these private ranches excellent and many use state licensed guides who escort you to and thru your hunting area. Transport can be 4×4 jeep, ATV, canoe, horseback or foot depending on the terrain.

Most of these private ranches can guarantee a good hunt because they manage their land and game so well and a typical ranch can offer mule deer as well as elk hunting.

These ranches are typically surrounded by public land which is over populated by hunters and so the animals end up taking refuge within the boundaries of these private ranches. You can find a ranch with every conceivable terrain North America has to offer, some even have the lot within their boundaries.

The good news is that many of these private ranches offer elk hunting for quite reasonable fees compared to other wilderness outfitters. The owners and guides on private ranches do this out of love of the sport, but you’re also helping to manage the herds on the owner’s land. A week’s elk hunting package with accommodation, five days of hunting, guides, meals, use of pack horses, and assistance with game recovery can cost around $1,500

Decide where you would like to go elk hunting then do some searching for “elk hunting on private ranches” at your favorite search engine or try one the specialist travel agents that organize hunting breaks.
